Ubuntu Youth Organization (UYO) is a dynamic, local, refugee-led non-profit initiative, founded by a dedicated group of refugees and Kenyans in February 2016 as a Self-Help Group, born from the harsh realities faced by urban refugees in urban areas. Ubuntu Youth Organization has now officially registered as a Community Based Organization (CBO) in 2023 under the department of social development in Nairobi, Kenya.
The name "Ubuntu" embodies our philosophy: "I am because we (you) are." This powerful concept instills in us the confidence to uplift others, to share our resources, and to impart the knowledge we ourselves have gained. As we often say at UYO, "We Are Empowered to Empower Others." Our ultimate goal is to live by the profound meaning of our name, cultivating a spirit of love, peace, happiness, and goodness within our communities.
UYO is driven by a diverse group of dynamic refugees and Kenyans who firmly believe that united people are the power of creating a better future. We are convinced that displaced individuals possess immense potential to contribute meaningfully to building sustainable and economically empowered communities, not just in Dagoretti but far beyond borders.
